Choreographer and Artistic Director Regina Klenjoski explores the urgent, nationally relevant topic of immigration through a personal lens. “Far From Home” springs from the odyssey of Klenjoski’s parents. They left a small village in their native Macedonia 50 years ago to escape old-world customs and seek a better life in Vienna, Austria. Soon after, dreaming the American Dream, they immigrated to America with a suitcase in one hand and their infant daughter in another. They lost deep ties to family, the Orthodox Church, and their cultural history and traditions. They gained a chance to build a new life. Was the difficulty and promise of leaving one home and making peace with another worth it?

“Far From Home” weaves poetry, movement, documentary film and an original score by Macedonian composer Toni Kitanovski into an evening of powerfully emotive dance theatre. The west coast premiere of a family’s journey of assimilation, cultural identity, and hope marks the company's 20 year anniversary and its return to the very stage of its premiere performance in 2000. The evening also features a mini-documentary of immigration stories filmed during RKDC's Poetry and Movement workshops that took place in the midwest last spring.

Get lost in the beauty that is DANCE as RKDC celebrates 20 years of inventive choreography, fierce athleticism and compelling storytelling.
